A symposium for W Cape organizations interested in reading will be held on 13th November at 15.00 at the Centre for the Book, 62 Queen Victoria Street, Cape Town CBD. This is the follow up to a successful inaugural meeting hosted by the Franschhoek Literary Festival in March this year.
At that meeting we discussed the beginning of an informal friendship between those working towards literacy and reading related issues.
The agenda this time will be able to share plans for 2014 and discuss ways in which we might be able to work together and assist each other.
The first meeting was attended by:
Jay Heale (chaired the meeting as an independent book expert, Bookchat website)
Sindiwe Magona (Translation project of CBN)
Nonique Mashologu (IBBY SA)
Jean Williams (Biblionef SA)
Carole Bloch (PRAESA; Nal’ibali)
Mignon Hardie (Fundza)
Marjorie van Heerden (SCBWI)
Margie Cunnama (FLF Library Fund librarian)
Kathy Madlener (BookMark)
Phakama Matoti (Centre for the Book)
Lesley Beake (CBN)
Niki and Jude Daly also attended in a personal capacity when Niki gave a short talk on the state of the SA publishing industry.
