This book is extraordinary. I have never before seen so much packed into the intricate pages of a picture book. We start with a fluffy parrot chick and by the end of the book (and the year) he is able to fly. Meanwhile his mother, who has been self-elected Queen of the Birds, decides to make a book of bird stories to tell people what birds need. So, month by month, we enjoy a collection of bird fables, all retold to give a special African flavour. Each page is a detailed work of art.
