Our first gig! The CBN choir, under the expert leadership of Vuyokasi Size and her husband Phumlani, performed at the launch of the Stanford Community Arts Programme on Thursday25th October.
The children met at the Butterfly Centre at 5.30 to apply their traditional isiXhosa ‘face paint’ (swirls of dot patterns) and colourful CBN bandanas. They then walked in a remarkably orderly line round to Oumeul restaurant where they performed three traditional songs – to great applause.
They have performed twice before – for the CBN board in July and for visiting Rotarians from Rottweil in Germany, but this was their first venture into the public arena! They were very effective, and very popular. Now they are included in plans for a larger community choir including adults as well as children.
