Our very first funding took us by surprise. We hadn’t even started when Swedish book activists offered to fund our pilot project … and went on from there to fund our first workshops. With a couple of exceptions (National Lottery, KPMG and, most recently, W Cape Department of Arts, Culture and Sport), we have been funded by private individuals and Rotary Clubs who have actually been to workshops and seen what we do. This close relationship between real people, real children and real books is what makes CBN work. We thrive on the compassionate interest in reading that is long term and deeply felt. Our funders invariably become our friends – and friends to the children.
