Children’s Book Network writes and imagines reading materials, activities and games that encourage children between the ages of 10 and 15 to give reading a chance. We also introduce them, through our popular reading workshops, to books and other texts that stimulate imagination and thinking. We work with under-resourced and book-deprived communities where our projects are given, free of charge through the kindness of donors both here and abroad.
What we do and how we do it
That’s what we do. We have firmly resisted diverting into other aspects of reading (tempting though that has often been). Our intention is to provide these materials, through donors, to organizations with similar aims and to parents, schools, libraries and communities.
The ultimate reason for this long and successful project is to reach the children. We have seen countless cases where books and reading have made a visible difference to children already struggling with difficult life circumstances. We have equally, observed the joy in the eyes of better resourced workshop participants. This system is infinitely adaptable. It WORKS.
Our training programme to empower local facilitators has been running for three years now – and will grow considerably during 2025. Our main job is to keep doing what we are doing and deliver the material to as many communities and individuals as possible. We must – we have to – reach more potential readers with this greatest of skills – reading.
