We are really thrilled that three long-standing friends of CBN are joining us internationally to raise funds for the continued work of CBN at a time when it is more necessary than ever.
They are (in alphabetical order)
Anele Mhlahlo who was a faithful member of our workshop team and served on our board for two years before travelling to Canada for further study. An intriguing combination of music (he was Leader of the South African National Youth Orchestra and is a fine violinist), and a fast-thinking legal mind, Anele is now studying for his Doctorate in Law.
Nonhlanhla Dlamini currently lives in Switzerland with her young family. She holds a Doctorate in Biological Anthropology from the University of Cape Town and has lived and worked in Switzerland for more than five years now. She is passionate about children and reading, particularly in her home country of South Africa. We look forward very much to her input and her excitement about out project.
Nyasha Makwarimba worked with CBN for three years before she completed high school and went to Oxford for further study. She was an amazing volunteer, bringing her love of music and dance, her enthusiasm and her optimistic outlook to countless workshops. She is much missed by the children we work with and by all the CBN team. She was Student of the Year for 2019-2020 at Oxford Sixth Form College.

Lisa Witherden is our fundraising manager and also runs our social media and website. She developed most of the materials you will see on our website in the Lockdown Learning project. Lisa has only been with us since the beginning of the year, and already we don’t know how we managed without her. She comes from a teaching and materials development background and is experienced on the workings of NGO and NPO organizations.
Hildegard Witbooi is the member of our board most closely associated with fundraising. Currently finalizing a doctorate in Horticulture, she is Head of Agriculture at Springfontein Winery, just outside Stanford in the Western Cape – home to very good friends of Children’s Book Network. Through Springfontein, we now have other funding friends in Rotweil, Germany.
Inga Mfundisi began a year as CBN Youth Ambassador with a brilliant workshop at which she gave an inspiring motivational speech and handed over fifty books she had collected for our Book Club. Covid 19 has temprarily put a stop to her plans with CBN, but we hope to revive them later this year.
