The children who come to Children’s Book Network workshops in increasing numbers are volunteers. They want to come. It isn’t part of school. It’s fun.
It takes a lot of work to prepare for and run a workshop, and even more work goes on in the background. This picture shows some of our volunteer and community team – volunteer musicians at our final workshop of 2018, Teen Team members Nyasha Makwarimba and Jacques Rousseau, community helpers from De Kop, Vuyokasi Size and her husband Phumani, and Phumela Asanda from Stanford South. There are others, not pictured here, who assist with isiXhosa translation, food preparation and general preparation.
Just as important are those who toil in the background – our board, who give tremendous input at our quarterly meetings and out loyal tram of administrative helpers, Elsa Gebhard on accounts, Leanne Robertson on general (everything!) and Wilien van Zyl on workshop administration.
