Delighted doesn’t come near what we felt when Leif Lindquist, on behalf of four Rotary Clubs in Skellefteä, presented CBN with a most beautiful piece of card with the words R220 000 printed on it!
This amount of money is the result of very hard work in Skellefteä, where CBN has been the focus of a fund-raising effort during the last months. This was linked to the Cape to Cape project in which pilot Johan Wiklund flew from northern Scandinavia to The Cape of Good Hope, landing at Stellenbosch Flying Club on Saturday 24th October. (For more information on this go to: www.capetocape.net or see other articles on this website under News.)
On hand to receive the cheque was were Geraldine Nicol, District Governor for Rotary District 9350, which includes Angola and Namibia as well as the Western and Northern Cape and Roy Zazeraj, honorary member of Rotary Newlands and Chairman of CBN Trust.
Now CBN can fly too! Many, many thanks to everyone who helped to make this donation possible. It will be wisely used to bring the love of books to more and more of South Africa’s children – to make reading cool!
Our thanks to:
Rotary Skellefteä – all four clubs involved in this incredible project.
Cape to Cape and all their management team, particularly Leif Lindquist who formed the link between them and CBN.
Rotary Newlands who have not only listened to us with interest, but have provided three of our board members, particularly our Chairman Roy Zazeraj.
Rotary Cape of Good Hope who gave us much support and assistance in our early days.
DG Geraldine Nicol for taking time out from a very busy schedule to come and join is in our sincere gratitude for thie financial input and support.
Johan Wiklund and his family for sharing their moment of happiness when the little plane touched down after its long, long journey south. The children from Red Hill informal settlement who attended the ceremony were deeply moved and touched.
