p5297799

Next week (June 29th to July 2nd) CBN will be holding the first Winter Workshop, for High School learners, with an amazingly exciting programme.

To start each day, we will have input from the archaeologists working on the rescue archaeology around the Clanwilliam Dam. Participants will learn about rock art and stone tools and make their own version of the paintings among many other practical activities

During the rest of the each day we will feature sessions with musician and poet Blaq Pearl, violinist Anele Mhlahlo and poet Walter Willies. There will be a whole new collection of books related to rivers, time and the valley. There will be choral verse, puppets, free writing, discussion, creating a reading board game and making music with rock gongs .

FUNZA – http://www.fundza.co.za/ – will be with us again to share news of their incredibly exciting programme of reading for teenagers. There will be good food, hot chocolate and above all, there will be reading. There will be a Time Capsule buried to represent the young people of Clanwilliam. There will be non-stop FUN!

Workshops will begin at Living Landscape with hot chocolate and muffins at 9.30. Fun begins promptly at 10.00 on the first three workshop days. The fourth day is for finishing projects, documenting and evaluating.

A similar workshop for primary school children will be held from 13th to 16th July.

Thanks: This workshop was part of the Clanwilliam Dam Community Project (CDCP) in association with Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project, PGS Heritage and Clanwilliam Municipality, particularly their Library and their librarians who give CBN wonderful support. Sponsorship for the workshops comes from the Department of Water and Sanitation as part of its Social responsibility programme associated with the raising of the Clanwilliam Dam wall.
