Today, 2 April, is World children’s Book Day and to celebrate, here is some news of a highly successful library outreach project .
Every weekday afternoon from 3.00 to 4.30 children are invited to come to the library where special events are occasionally arranged and help offered in choosing books and stories.
Clanwilliam Library works very closely with CBN on the Cederberg Stories Project and the staff are enormously helpful in advertising workshops and registering children.
Since the workshops began, there has been a marked increase in reading interest and many visits to our website to check out what is going on (and see their own photographs!).
World Children’s Book Day should really be celebrated every day, but at least marking the birth of Hans Christian Anderson in this way focuses a little extra adult attention on the importance of reading.
