ALL activities will include local talent and bring forward skills already existing in the community.

WRITING

Individual journals and stories

Themes: Home and Landscape

• Identifying with the distant past.
• Heritage based interviews and discussion with elders and family
• Life for children now and then – an archive of childhood
• Projection into the future
• Poetry and dramatization

Making books
Each participant will create a book of self: Me in My Place. Techniques will include research and interview, journals.

Digital Stories
Working as a team to make a digital record of community and place

Photo-journalism
Preparing group articles for local newspapers and magazines. Submitting to national publications. Children’s own illustrations, photographs and words.

Mapping
In words and illustration, recreating home and landscape on paper

Communicating
Comparing and sharing landscapes with children in other environments (Sweden: Stories South to North)

MUSIC

Song-writing
Songs to build a nation! – Children’s Anthems, hopefully with James Hollingworth (Sweden) and Pedro the music man (SA and Spain)

Singing
With members of the UCT choir and friends

Drumming
With Basse and Kabbo (Senegal)

Marimba and Steel bands
To be contacted with a view to sharing skills and building
